MacConkey Agar with Ciprofloxacin, 10µg/ml, 19ml fill, screens for fluoroquinolone resistance in gram negative rods, 15x100mm plate

For use as a screening medium for the selective isolation of ciprofloxacin-resistant E. coli and other gram negative rods from clinical samples. Especially useful for screening rectal swab specimens prior to prostate gland biopsy, according to the method recommended by urologist Michael Liss, MD from the University of California at Irvine. Recommended to be used with a broth enrichment step using BHI with 10µg/ml of ciprofloxacin (cat. no. K258).

Urologists use this as a rectal screening medium before they perform a prostate gland biopsy. The biopsy procedure is known for introducing resistant organisms into the bloodstream from the rectum. Our media will allow urologists to screen the men first to see if they will be at risk of a “difficult to treat” infection or septicemia.
