An impurity of Azithromycin. Azithromycin, derived from erythromycin, is an antibiotic. It binds to the 50S subunit of the bacterial ribosome, and thus inhibits translation of mRNA. It is an azalide, a subclass of macrolide antibiotics and is one of the world's best-selling antibiotics.
