Sodium acetate

Sodium acetate is used as part of a buffer system when combined with acetic acid. Sodium acetate can be used to reduce the bitter taste of oral drugs and enhance the antibacterial properties of the preparations. Sodium acetate is widely used as a preservative in the food industry and as a treatment for metabolic acidosis in premature infants and in hemodialysis solutions.
