Heneicosapentaenoic acid methyl ester

Heneicosapentaenoic acid methyl ester is a derivative of heneicosapentaenoic acid (HPA), a 21:5 ω-3 fatty acid found in the green alga B. pennata and in fish oils. HPA is incorporated into phospholipids and into triacylglycerol in cell culture and inhibits the conversion of linolenic acid to arachidonic acid (AA) in hepatoma cells. HPA is a poor substrate for prostaglandin H synthase (PGHS) (cyclooxygenase) and for 5-lipoxygenase.
