Colistin B

It is produced by the strain of Bacillus polymyxa var. colistinus and Bac. colistinum Koyama 70-B. It has good anti-gram-negative bacterial activity, but has poor effect on Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Proteus aeruginosa. Colistin B is used as an antibiotic in the treatment of infectious diseases resulting from multi-drug resistant (MDR) gram-negative bacteria.
