rec β-Defensin 2 (human)
β-Defensin 2 (BD-2) (human), an antimicrobial peptide expressed throughout the epithelia of many organs, is induced when keratinocytes come into contact with Gram-negative bacteria or pro-inflammatory cytokines such as TNF-α and IL-1β. Elevated expression has been detected in lesional epidermal keratinocytes both in psoriasis and inflamed skin of mastitis.
