N-GARDE Mycoplasma PCR Reagent set PCR kit for Mycoplasma Detection

Mycoplasmas are common and serious contaminants of cell cultures and this remains one of the major problems encountered in biological research using cultured cells. Studies have shown that up to the 30% cell cultures are contaminated with mycoplasmas and the main contaminant, among the 115 known species, are the species M.fermentans, M.orale, M.salivarium and M.hyorhinis. The origin of mycoplasmal infection of cell culture are often bovine serum (A.laidlawii, M.arginini, M.hyorhinis and M.fermentans), laboratory personnel (M.orale, M.salivarium) and infected cell cultures. Unlike bacteria and fungi, contamination with Mycoplasma usually does not result in turbid growth in cultures or macroscopic alteration of the cells. However, Mycoplasma contamination may cause adverse effects, such as changes in metabolism, growth, viability, DNA, RNA and protein synthesis, morphology, virus propagation etc., leading to experiments in cell culture with not reliable results and unsafe biological products. Testing for Mycoplasma is a necessary quality control to assure accurate research and reliable biotechnological products.
