Background |
Zinc finger and BTB domain-containing protein 24 (ZBTB24), also called ZNF450, is a DNA-binding protein initially found to be expressed in response to BMP-2 signaling ZBTB24 along with CDCA7 play a role in DNA methylation by recruiting the HELLS chromatin remodeling complex to centromeric satellite repeats Mutations in ZBTB24 are linked to immunodeficiency and centromeric instability, and facial anomalies syndrome type 2 (ICF2) ZBTB24 is recruited to DNA breaks by PARP1 and promotes assembly of the LIG4/XRCC4 complex, resulting in error free non-homologous end joining (NHEJ) ZBTB24 has also been shown to play a role in trophoblast proliferation through the methylation of E-cadherin.
