Background |
- Secretory carrier membrane proteins (SCAMPs) are a family of conserved integral membrane proteins localized to membranes of the cell-surface recycling system, including secretory organelles and endosomes. SCAMP1, SCAMP2, SCAMP3, and SCAMP4 are ubiquitously expressed, whereas SCAMP5 exhibits primarily neural expression.
- SCAMP4 protein is enriched on the surface of senescent cells, and its expression regulates the secretion of SASP (senescence-associated secretory phenotype) factors, including interleukin 6 (IL6), IL7, IL8, growth differentiation factor-15 (GDF-15), and C-X-C motif chemokine ligand 1 (CXCL1).
