Xanthine oxidase uses molybdenum as cofactor and plays a central role in the metabolism of nucleotides. It is extensively used in enzymatic assays for the determination of inorganic phosphorus, 5'-nucleotidase (5’-NT) and adenosine deaminase (ADA).
