Leukotriene D4 is a constituent of slow-reacting substance of anaphylaxis (SRS-A) and acts as an agonist of smooth muscle contraction. LTD4-induced bronchoconstriction and enhanced vascular permeability contribute to the pathogenesis of asthma and acute hypersensitivity.
