Anti-PNMT Antibody

PNMT, also known as Phosphatidylethanolamine N-methyltransferase, or PEMT, PEAMT, or PEMT2, and encoded by the gene PEMT/PEMPT/PNMT, catalyzes three sequential methylation reactions of phosphatidylethanolamine to produce phosphatidylcholine a major constituent of cell membranes and a primary pulmonary surfactant. PNMT/PEMT is localized to the endoplasmic reticulum membrane as well as the mitochondrial membranes. PNMT/PEMT is widely expressed and has the highest activity in the mitochondria. The conversion of phosphatidylethanolamine to phosphatidylcholine by sequential methylation via PNMT/PEMT occurs in the liver. A different pathway for phosphatidylcholine production starting from choline also is present in cells but it does not involve the PNMT/PEMT enzyme.
