(3α)-3-[(4-Nitrobenzoyl)oxy]pregn-4-en-20-one is an intermediate in the synthesis of 3α-Hydroxy Progesterone (H939045), a metabolite of Progesterone (P755900), a steroid hormone produced by the corpus luteum. Induces maturation and secretory activity of the uterine endothelium; suppresses ovulation. Progesterone is implicated in the etiology of breast cancer.
