(2R, 4S) - 2- (1, 1- Dimethylethyl) - 4- [(2E) - 1- hydroxy- 2- methyl- 2- butenyl] - 4- methyl-1, 3- oxathiolan- 5- one is a by-product intermediate in synthesizing (R)-(+)-Thiolactomycin (T350880). It is a natural product inhibitor of β-Ketoacyl-AcpM Synthase A (KasA). It inhibits the synthesis of mycolic acid which is a major cell wall component of Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Also an inhibitor of D-Aspartate oxidase (DDO).
