1-Bromononane (CAS# 693-58-3) is a useful synthetic intermediate. It is used in the synthesis of cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2), a new class of selective COX-2 inactivators. It is also used to prepare alkylimidazoles by N-alkylation of imidazoles as antibacterial agents.
