Applications |
Carbomer can be used as a binder and coating material for granules and tablets, a matrix for external preparations, an emulsifier (for the preparation of O/W emulsions for external use), a viscosity enhancer and suspending agent, and a sustained and controlled release material ( The sustained and controlled release of carbomer is based on its swelling and gel-forming properties). Carbomer can also be salted with basic drugs to form a soluble gel to exert a sustained and controlled release effect. It is especially suitable for the preparation of sustained-release liquid preparations, such as eye drops and nasal drops. Carbomer is also used in the preparation of mucoadhesive tablets to achieve a sustained release effect, and it has a better effect when used in combination with some water-soluble cellulose derivatives.
