Docosahexaenoic acid is a component of phospholipid membranes and the myelin sheath. It is the most abundant PUFA found in the brain and localized predominantly to the gray matter. DHA exhibits various physiological processes such as regulating signal transduction pathways, neurotransmission, production of neurons and formation of myelin sheath around the axon.
