Application |
N,N-Diethyl-N-methylethanaminium iodide is a crystallization agent that is used in the production of polyurethane and polyurea. The compound reacts with diisocyanates to form a reactive intermediate. This intermediate can then react with an active hydrogen group on polyols, such as polyoxyethylene glycol, to produce a new molecule with an amine functional group. N,N-Diethyl-N-methylethanaminium iodide is also used in the preparation of vitrified specimens for electron microscopy. A hydroxyl group on the compound reacts with aluminium to form a thermally stable complex which can be used for electron microscopy without any further treatment. The compound has been found to be toxic to women and cell culture and should not be handled without proper protective gear.
