Hyocholic acid

Hyocholic acid is a trihydroxy-5beta-cholanic acid in which the three hydroxy substituents are located at the 3alpha-, 6alpha- and 7alpha-positions. Hyocholic acid is converted by gut microflora primarily to taurohyocholate and, to a lesser extent, taurocholic acid and tauro-β-muricholic acid in mice. Hyocholic acid has low toxicity against human hepatoma HepG2 cells.
